Are you ready for the Clockwise Mat-riarchy? Better yet, is the WORLD ready for the Clockwise Mat-riarchy? In these distressingly dark tymez – I mean, the world was ALWAYS dark as oblivion’s asshole, amirite or amirite? – we need art: verse, visuals, the works. Specifically, we need women’s art. Why? Because women rule, that’s why. Or at least we SHOULD. I mean, DUH. So this particular issue of Clockwise Cat aims to rectify the gender disequilibrium that we witness in other literary journals and even in our own humble zine – in other words, men’s voices dominating the scene, while many talented women writers and artists languish in the background. So this issue features 30 womenz versus 14 menz! (Take that, petty patriarchy!) And these voices and visuals are VITAL. In addition to the ESTIMABLE NELLY SANCHEZ being our Featured Femme and the below-list of female artists and scribes whose works are on offer in this issue, we feature a lengthy music review of the female-led Pylon Reenactment Society (crooner Vanessa Briscoe Hay is LEGEND, I tells ya), as well as a review of The Dispossessed by the literary giant Ursula K. LeGuin. Best of all, we review (in our tiny-ass review section) books by CONTEMPORARY femme-scribes Sheila Murphy, Eva Skrande, Martine Bellen, and Jowonder! Not to discount the commercial arts, we also review female bands like Mannequin Pussy, Sleater Kinney, and Kim Gordon. So let’s smash the patriarchy and praise the matriarchy!
